I don’t know much about your problem, but I can say that the G73′s touch pad sucks, and that’s not a software problem.
It starts behaving wrongly as soon as there’s something on it. To fix that, just pass your hand over it and make sure there’s no dust, hair, or food (:P) on it any more.

@Luis: You should mention that “git-gui” should be installed to open the GUI tool.
An “apt-get install git-gui” on Debian based distros will do the trick.
